Watch Out

There is no 'Cancel' button — you must go to Change plan and select the Free plan. The UI frames cancellation as a 'downgrade,' which confuses many users looking for a cancel option.

Only Workspace Owners can cancel. Regular members and even some admins cannot access billing settings. If the original owner has left the organization, recovering access requires a support ticket.

Notion bills per workspace, not per account. A single user can have multiple workspaces on different paid plans, each billed separately. Users often forget they're paying for multiple workspaces.

Removing team members mid-cycle does not reduce your bill immediately. The paid seat stays open and your seat count only resyncs at the next billing renewal. On annual plans, removed seats are paid for the entire remaining term.

Inviting someone as a full Member (instead of a Guest) immediately creates a new paid seat and triggers a prorated charge. The Guest vs. Member distinction in the invite UI is easy to confuse.

Workspace owners can enable domain auto-join, which automatically adds anyone with a matching email domain as a paid member — silently increasing the bill.

Mobile (App Store/Play Store) subscriptions are limited to 1-member workspaces. Many users don't realize this and pay for a plan that won't support their team.

Notion does not send prominent advance warnings before annual auto-renewal. Users discover unexpected large charges.

Monthly plan refunds are only available within 3 days of signup. Annual plan refunds are only available within 30 days. After those windows, no refund is issued.

What Happens After You Cancel

Access

Paid features remain active until the end of your billing period, then your workspace reverts to the Free plan.
