Quick Facts
Watch Out
Early Termination Fee (ETF): If you're on an annual plan billed monthly and cancel before the year ends, Adobe charges 50% of your remaining monthly payments. For example, cancelling a $69.99/mo plan in month 3 costs roughly $315 in fees. This is the subject of an active FTC lawsuit filed in June 2024.
The ETF is not clearly disclosed at signup — it's buried in fine print and Terms of Use links. You only see the exact fee amount deep in the cancellation flow.
The 'Annual, paid monthly' plan is pre-selected by default at checkout. You must actively switch to month-to-month to avoid the annual commitment and ETF.
The cancellation flow has 6-10 screens including surveys, plan-change pitches, and retention offers — all before the final confirm button.
Adobe has historically disabled online self-serve cancellation during some periods, forcing users to use live chat or phone where agents apply retention pressure.
Free trials require a credit card and auto-convert to a paid annual plan (with ETF) after the trial ends. The 14-day refund window starts from the first charge date, not the trial start.
If you accept a discount retention offer during the cancel flow, you stay on the annual plan and the ETF-free window does not reset.
Adobe does not send renewal reminder emails before annual auto-renewal in most markets.
Adobe Fonts licensed through your subscription are deactivated after cancellation — documents using those fonts will show substitution warnings.
No pause or suspension option exists. You either pay or cancel entirely.
What Happens After You Cancel

Access continues until the end of your current billing period. Account downgrades to a free Creative Cloud membership with 2 GB cloud storage.
Your data
Cloud storage reduced to 2 GB — you have 30 days to download files exceeding the free limit before they may be permanently deleted. Lightroom cloud photos are retained for 1 year. Local files on your computer are unaffected but cannot be edited without a subscription.
